Puppy Socialization Classes
Let us assist and guide you in learning basic health care techniques, basic commands and training and providing socialization for your new puppy to ensure a healthy and happy pet for life! (PDF enrollment form: puppy-class-registration.pdf)
What Are Puppy Classes?
Our puppy classes include:
- Puppy preschool: Get a foundation for a life-time of learning.
- Basic Training: Learn the tools to teach your puppy just about anything.
- Preventative Healthcare Recommendations: Learn how to make the best health practices part of your daily routine.
- Puppy Gentling: Learn to be comfortable for examinations, nail trims and interactions with strangers.
- Socialization: Learn that people and pets come in all shapes and sizes. They are generally friendly and nothing to be concerned about.
- Classes take place on Saturdays from 4-5pm at the Animal Hospital of Streamwood. Class size is limited to 10 puppies.

Why Are Puppy Classes Important?
- They present a variety of socialization opportunities for your puppy during a critical time in their development. This is the most crucial and beneficial aspect of these gatherings.
- Puppy gentling techniques will help your dog to accept gentle handling throughout life. This can make veterinary visits fun, make care you need to provide at home easy and allow for treatment of illness should the need arise.
- Individualized, one-on-one basic training techniques help you to understand how your puppy learns best.
- They provide a strong foundation for further learning at home, in obedience classes, training or other social classes.
- Preventative healthcare guidance helps you introduce health care routines now, during this period of acceptance, which will benefit you and your dog for a lifetime.
- They are a lot of fun for the people and the puppies!

Who is invited?
- Puppies ages 8-24 weeks are welcome to participate.
- All children and adults who choose to accompany the puppy are welcome.
- All puppies must have had a veterinary examination to ensure they are healthy and free of contagious diseases.
- All puppies must have had a recent negative intestinal parasite exam (stool sample).
- All puppies must be on parasite preventatives like Heartgard Plus and Frontline to prevent fleas, ticks, heartworms and intestinal parasites.
- All puppies must be participating in ongoing vaccination and parasite programs as outlined by your veterinarian.

- Your puppy should wear a leash and collar (a buckle collar, harness or halter; choke collars are not appropriate for this class).
- You should wear clothes in which you will be comfortable getting down on the floor with puppies
- Bring any and all questions and concerns about your puppy (make a list!)
